IMDEA Nanociencia

The Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies in Nanoscience (IMDEA-Nanociencia) is a multidisciplinary institute focused on frontier science and technology at the nanoscale.

IMDEA-Nanoscience is a private non-profit Foundation created in late 2006. Despite its brief history, IMDEA Nanoscience has established itself as a competitive centre in the area of nanoscience at an international level. Currently IMDEA researchers coordinate several FP7 projects (Large Scale, Small and medium scale, Marie Curie Training Networks, ERC Starting Grants) and participate in various other international funded projects. IMDEA will be in charge of the Scientific and the Administrative Coordination of the NEXMAG project.

Role in the Project

Headed by Dr. Alberto Bollero, the Division of Permanent Magnets and Applications at IMDEA Nanociencia has an extensive experience on the preparation and characterisation of magnetic nanostructures, including thin films, multilayers, and permanent magnetic powders. Its expertise in the study of magnetism through interfaces in thin films will be of fundamental importance to understand and optimize the coupling phenomena, i.e., resulting magnetic performance in the nanocomposite materials subject of the project. A novel flash-milling procedure will be applied to to obtain high performance isotropic Mn-based nanocrystalline powders.
